Utah Fishing Day on the Hill

Each year, the Utah angling community comes together at the State Capitol for Utah Fishing Day on the Hill, an event organized by the Utah Anglers Coalition to highlight the importance of fishing, conservation, and outdoor recreation during the legislative session.

While the Utah Council of Trout Unlimited is not the event organizer, we are proud to strongly participate alongside many partner organizations that work to protect and enhance Utah’s aquatic resources. Angling is more than a pastime—it is a vital part of Utah’s heritage, quality of life, and economy, representing a multi-billion-dollar industry that connects families, communities, and future generations to the outdoors.

Fishing Day on the Hill brings together a diverse alliance of groups, including conservation organizations, fishing clubs, paddling advocates, youth programs, and public agencies. The event creates a unique space where anglers of all interests—trout, warm-water species, fly fishing, and more—can unite around shared goals such as conservation, stream access, education, and responsible stewardship of Utah’s waters.

Participants also showcase programs that introduce new anglers to the sport, provide free instruction and equipment, support river cleanups, promote native trout conservation, and mentor youth—especially those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience fishing. These efforts ensure that Utah’s fishing traditions continue to thrive for generations to come.

The Utah Council of Trout Unlimited values the collaboration and shared purpose represented at this event. By working together with partner organizations and engaging with legislators and the public, we help advance conservation-minded policies and strengthen the future of coldwater fisheries across Utah.
